The Firm Rail Service Ltd. offers the organization of transportations of extra-, oversize and heavyweight freights. Our business contacts with the Department of special transportation of JSC Russian Railways of the Russian Federation, Complex tests Department of National research Institute of JSC Russian Railways and specialists in the field of development of schemes of loading and fastening as well, allow to develop technical, transportation and cost parts for any project on delivery of oversized freight on the territory of Russia and CIS.

 


In order to begin the elaboration of such kind of transportation we require the drawing of oversized items in several projections from the client with the indication of sizes, as well as information on name and weight of cargo, route, terms and volume of traffic. On the basis of these documents and data our employees determine the degree of oversize freight and in coordination with all concerned authorities will specify the route of transportation, develop schemes of loading and agree on freight rates.
The Firm Rail Service Ltd. may also provide transshipment of oversized cargo at border crossings with countries having different width of railway gauge.

Oversize types and degree

Standard size load is a load that does not exceed design limits of open rolling-stock (platforms, open wagons, transporters), when the wagon is on a straight horizontal section of the railway track (and similarities in the same vertical plane longitudinal axes of the rolling stock and railway track).

Oversized freight is a freight that exceeds clearance height of the open rolling-stock, which is on a straight horizontal section of the railway track (and similarities in the same vertical plane longitudinal axes of the rolling stock and railway track).

When checking if cargo is within clearance limits, you shall assume that the cargo is loaded into the wagon with the design height of the floor from the level of the rail head - 1300 mm

 Oversize areas and degrees

Depending on the height (the height from rail head level (RHL), when the cargo exceeds loading clearance height, there are three oversize AREAS:


-
low oversize area - at a height from 480 up to 1400 mm at a distance from the railway track 1626-1760 mm and height from 1230 to 1400 mm at a distance from the railway track 1761-2240 mm;
-
side oversize area - at a height of 1400 up to 4000 mm;
-
top oversize area  - at a height of 4000-5300 mm


Also there is an additional combined side and top oversize  area at a height from 4,000 to 4603 mm at a distance from the railway track 1625 mm to the border zones of top oversize.

Here are the following degrees of oversize cargoes  depending on the exceeding of the loading clearance height:
low oversize area - six degrees,
side oversize area - six degrees,
top oversize area - three degrees.

Extra-oversize freight is a freight that exceed the 3rd degree of the top, 4th (at a hight of 3700-4000 mm), 5th (at a height of 3400-3700 mm) and 6th degree of the side oversize area, the 2nd (at an altitude of 380-1230 mm) and 6th degree of low oversize area and go below the 3 to 6 degrees of the low oversize area and  that exceed  loading clearance height (more than 5,300 mm),

In accordance with the established oversize cargo areas, the cargo may be low, side and top extra-oversized. When the height of the oversize cargo is over 5300 mm – it is called vertical.

To determine the type of oversize we use five-digit Index of oversize. An Index of oversize has the following form:

 

The 1st digit – is always letter "H";

2nd digit -- the degree of low oversize (1 to 6 degree);

3rd digit -- the degree of side oversize (1 to 6 degree);

4th digit -- the degree of top oversize (from 1st to 3rd degree);

5th digit -- vertical oversize.

Oversize in any area is specified by figure "8".

Н3528 – mixed oversize: 
(the 3rd degree of low oversize, the 5th degree of side oversize, the 2nd degree of top oversize vertical extra-oversize)
