Delivery of transit cargo en route from Europe to Asia and back via Russia will be simpified.

Delivery of transit cargo en route from Europe to Asia and back via Russian territories will be simplified. Ministry of Transport elaborated a bill providing for creation of a system of transport corridors. As reported by Izvestiya, such freight transportations shall be governed by mild customs and supervision regulations. The project implies amendments to the railway charter. As explained by the Ministry of Transport, the simplified work of customs shall be subject to a governmental decision. The bill has been sent for approval to the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Justice.

According to experts, the major problem of transit via Russia today is the long-term delivery due to the need to collect documents at border crossings and lengthy procedures. This has led to a situation when a fair share of goods is being shipped from Asia to Europe by sea, bypassing Russia, i.e. via ports of Finland and other European countries. Granting benefits to transit corridors may be the first case when customs will be limited for sake of economy.
